General Regulation

Traversate dello Stretto Amatoriali 2027 - Updated 15 August 2026

Art. 1 — Route, Locations and Dates

Route

  • Start: Capo Peloro ‑ Torre Faro (ME)
  • Finish: Cannitello (RC) — the beach along the Cannitello seafront

Period: 15 May — 30 September 2027 (the calendar will be published by 5 March)

Crossing day: meeting point at the Cannitello beach — Villa S.G. (RC), for the boat transfer to Capo Peloro (dates and times to be confirmed)

Day before the crossing: meeting at 18:30 in Cannitello — Villa S.G. (RC) (the exact location will be communicated later)

Art. 2 — Participants

A maximum of 30 participants may register for each event.

Given its amateur nature, the event is open to all individuals of either sex who:

  • have turned 14 by the date of the crossing
  • hold a competitive swimming medical certificate, valid on the date of the crossing
  • have proven swimming ability

2.1 — During the event participants must behave appropriately, respecting the environment and causing no damage to the landscape. Waste (gels, empty bottles and so on) must be kept or disposed of in the designated areas. Breaking these simple rules means exclusion from the event.

2.2 — Companions (Plus registration)

The participant declares that:

  • companions are competent swimmers and/or will equip themselves with suitable flotation aids
  • underage companions have the consent of both parents and are accompanied by an adult

The organisers and the boat operators, having applied the prescribed safety-at-sea rules, are released from any liability for damages suffered by the companions themselves.

Art. 3 — Accreditation (mandatory)

At 18:30 on the day before the crossing there is a meeting every registered participant must attend. The location will be communicated by email and on the WhatsApp group.

Meeting programme:

  • Introduction to the Organisation
  • Crossing schedule
  • Presentation of the race pack
  • General information about the Strait of Messina (myth, history, currents and so on)
  • Information about the crossing
  • Questions and answers
  • Participant accreditation (identity document)
  • Presentation of the original medical certificate
  • Handover of the “race pack”
  • Pace check

Art. 4 — Registration

You can register:

  • through the website: www.traversatadellostrettoamatoriale.it
  • for groups, minors and other special cases: by contacting the office on 392.447.1044 or at traversatastrettoamatoriale@gmail.com

Art. 5 — Pre-registration

Pre-registration means registering before the calendar is published, without indicating a specific date. The fee is paid in full at the time of pre-registration, under the same terms and with the same entitlements as an ordinary registration, and locks in the price applied at that moment, which remains valid even if the season's list price is higher. There is no limit to the number of pre-registrations. Online pre-registration is reserved for those who have turned 18; minors and groups should contact the office.

5.1 — Preferred month. When pre-registering, the participant indicates the month they would prefer to swim in — June, July, August or September — or “Any month”. The preference is neither a booking of a date nor a commitment by the Organisation, and serves as the assignment criterion under point 5.4.

5.2 — Deadline. Pre-registrations stay open until seven days before the official calendar publication date, at which point they close automatically.

5.3 — Priority date selection. In the seven days preceding publication, every pre-registered participant receives a personal link at the email address provided, valid until the deadline, to choose their own date before the calendar becomes public. Places are assigned in the order the choices are received, up to the 30 places available for each date. The choice is final and cannot be repeated; once made, the participant receives the registration confirmation with the meeting point and times.

5.4 — Failure to choose a date. Participants who have not made a choice by the deadline are assigned a date by the Organisation according to the following criteria, in order: a date in the indicated month with places available, preferring the one with the most free places; failing that, the date closest to that month, at equal distance the one with the most free places and, at equal availability, the soonest. Those who indicated “Any month” are assigned the date with the most places available. Where places are limited, priority follows the chronological order of pre-registration.

5.5 — Changing the assigned date. A participant automatically assigned a date under point 5.4 is notified by email and may change it once only, within fourteen days of the calendar publication, choosing among the dates that still have places available through the same personal link. After that deadline the date is final.

5.6 — Withdrawal. A pre-registered participant who withdraws before a date has been attributed must notify it by email and receives a voucher equal to the full fee paid, valid 2 years from the date of issue. Once the date has been chosen or assigned, withdrawal is governed by Art. 8 (Refund policy), with the terms counted from that date.

5.7 — Right of withdrawal. The pre-registered participant has a right of withdrawal within 14 days of signing up for the pre-registration, as provided by law, and may exercise it by sending a request to: swimseasouthexperiencessdarl@pecimprese.it

Art. 6 — Cancellation/Suspension

6.1 — Holding the crossing is subject to the unquestionable approval of the Messina Harbour Master's Office.

6.2 — The Messina Harbour Master's Office and/or the Organisers may, at any time, decide to cancel or suspend the crossing should the minimum safety conditions set out in Ordinance no. 223 of 02.12.2025 no longer be met.

8.2 Refund for non-participation

Should a registered participant decide not to take part in the crossing date they registered for, they must notify their absence by email and will receive a voucher valid 2 years equal to:
